What Do I Need to Bring?
For the Making Pyjamas course, students will need to bring:
- Fabric - The amount will depend on your measurements. We've given some advice on this below.
- 1 spool of Polyester thread - We sell Gutermann SewAll at the studio (£1.70)
Our budding young sewers will have full use of the fabric scissors, needles, dressmaking pins, etc. that we have at the studio. Or, if they're really keen, then can bring their own!
Do I Need To Bring a Sewing Machine?
No, but you are welcome to if you wish. We have a Janome CXL301 sewing machine available for each student to use. We also sell a range of Janome machines, and offer discounts on these to our students.
If you're planning on bringing your own machine, please contact us and let us know the make and model.
How Do I Pay My Balance?
If you booked your place with a deposit, you're balance is due no less than 14 days before your course begins. For instructions on how to pay please visit our balance payments page.
If you're thinking of cancelling your booking, for any reason, please let us know as soon as possible, so that we can offer your place to someone on the waiting list. And also please have a look at our Cancellations & Refunds Policy on the FAQs page before doing this. Thanks.

FABRIC REQUIREMENTS
Students will need to bring fabric for their course:
- Fabric Type - We recommend 100% cotton, such as a dressmaking cotton or quilting cotton. Fabrics should be 'woven' type not 'knitted'. Ask in store if you're not sure.
- Fabric Amount - This will depend on (a) the student's measurements and (b) the width of their fabric. Referring to the chart below, our budding students should have a parent or adult help them take their measurements. The chart then gives the amount of fabric required for the two standardly available fabric widths of 45" (114cm) and 60" (152cm).

- Directional Patterns - If you're bringing a fabric with a directional pattern, such as rows of animals, we recommend adding an extra 0.5m onto your fabric requirements.
- Pre-washing - Please pre-wash your fabric before bringing it to the course.
- Thread - If you're purchasing thread outside of the Stitchery, take care to select a colour that matches your main fabric.
- We will provide the elastic needed for the waistband.
SHOPPING FOR FABRICS
Please feel free to pick up your fabric from wherever you like. But if you're looking for a little help choosing something suitable, we happily recommend The Splendid Stitch; a fabulous online store based here in Glasgow. The Stitchery has our own dedicated section on their site, with a handy course-by-course guide on what fabrics are suitable for each pattern.
Access this by going to the sewing schools section and entering THESTITCHERY (capitalised and no space) in the box; then click 'Go'.
Note that Stitchery students can receive 10% off their first purchase at The Splendid Stitch by simply entering THESTITCHERY again in the discount code box at the checkout.
