Autumn has arrived. And with the new season, a new name: dressmaking classes will now be known as 'Making Clothes' here at The Stitchery. Here's why:
Firstly, the phrase 'dressmaking' could easily be taken as gender specific. And we want to encourage both men and women to make their own clothing.
And secondly, dressmaking invites connotations of.....well, making dresses. But the message that we want to communicate is that you can in fact make your whole wardrobe; whether it be comfortable everyday clothing, something for the office, or even something to wear to bed!
We want to invite you to BE YOURSELF: To make clothes that express who you truly are, not just what you can find on the hi-street. Clothes that are a good fit for your unique, wonderful body. unique body well, and that last longer than just one season.
So there you have it. We're all about making clothes (and quilts and other things too…). And so what better way to finish off this blog than with some recent wardrobe makes from our wonderful students. Most of these are beginners students, and for many of them this was their very first make.
Enjoy and Happy Sewing!
