One-day Event // 9:30am-5:30pm // Cost: £60 (includes £20 fabric gift voucher + £14 pattern + lunch & refreshments)
In 2015 The Stitchery had our first ever Sewing Bee. This was an incredibly fun day for all and a wonderful celebration of our sewing community. If you didn't already see the promo video we made of last year's Bee, you can watch it below.
This year's event is gearing up to be just as fab, with some tasty prizes to be won, and a brand new way to enter yourself into the competition.
On the day, participants will be given 6-hours to construct a garment from an Intermediate level pattern (this will be a 'separate' not a full dress). At the end of this time, their garments will be handed to our judges, awarding them marks for quality of construction and the individual interpretation of the pattern.
To the victor will go the spoils of a beautiful Janome 6234XL Overlocker worth £429. We'll also have a Runner Up prize of a £100 Stitchery gift voucher + 2 sewing patterns, and a Third Place prize of £50 to spend on fabric at The Splendid Stitch, Glasgow's best online fabric store.

RUNNER UP
£100 Stitchery Gift voucher + 2 dressmaking patterns
Entry Requirements
The pattern used for the day will remain a secret until the event begins. It will be an intermediate level pattern, and a 'separate'.
To add to the excitement of this day, we've teamed up with Glasgow based online fabric store, The Splendid Stitch, who will kindly be giving each of our contestants £20 to spend on fabrics and haberdashery prior to the event.
Anyone who wishes to participate in the day must have experience of constructing at least one garment. The following skills are a requirement:
- Basic sewing machine skills - e.g. confidence with threading machine, winding bobbin.
- Standard seams, seam finishes, pockets and inserting a zipper.
Entering the
Sewing Bee
To enter yourself for consideration for the Sewing Bee, we're asking you to tell us about a garment that you have made and are proud of. What pattern did you use? What was your fabric choice and why? What techniques were used? What do you like most about it?
Submission guidelines:
- Submissions can only be made using the form below.
- Submissions will be open for just over 1 week, closing at Midnight on Sunday 6th March.
- All submissions will be reviewed by our judges and the 10 contestants announced by Monday 7th of March.
The cost for participating in the Bee is £60. Contestants will pay this when they confirm their place. They will then receive their £20 gift voucher to spend on fabric at The Splendid Stitch, and will need to have their fabric ready for the day of the Bee (19th March). On the day participants will be given their pattern, worth £14, which they are free to take home afterwards. A sumptuous lunch will be provided and refreshments throughout the day.
