One Day Workshop // 10am - 5pm // Skill Level: Pure Beginner (and upwards) // Cost: £60 (includes sample fabrics) // Instructor: Patricia Collins, Fashion Technician at Glasgow Caledonian University
About This Course
An overlock stitch is what you'll find on the inside of almost any piece of regular hi-street clothing. It's the ubiquitous stitch for quick and neat seaming, hemming, or edging. An Overlocker (also known as a 'Serger' in North America) is a machine dedicated to this purpose, and it comes in particularly handy when sewing with knitted fabrics, such as jersey.
In this course, led by expert Patricia Collins, we'll be helping you to get your head around this rather odd looking machine. Techniques will include the different overlocking stitches; curves & corners; and additional functions such as rolled hems. We will also be giving you a quick intro to our new Coverlocker machine.
Course Requirements
This is a beginner course, so no experience is necessary. If you own one, we recommend that you bring your own overlocker machine. If not, there are 3 available for use at the studio, on a first-come-first-served basis (there is an option for this during booking).
The cost of this class includes some sample fabrics and threads to play with. But we do ask that you bring 4 spools of overlocking thread to the class. And you are more than welcome to bring your own scraps of fabric too. Patricia will be available for any questions you may have on your existing projects.
Outcomes
At the end of this workshop, you should go home with:
- A basic set of overlocker skills that you can use with a variety of projects.
- A folder full of the samples you made during the classes (see examples below).
- Your copy of the 'Unlocking Your Overlocker' e-book.
