2 hour workshop // 12:30pm - 2:30pm // Instructor: Patricia Collins // Cost: £25 (including sample fabric)
This workshop is part of the Sew Doable open studio weekend at The Stitchery. We've been listening to your feedback, and this is one of the topics you really wanted to cover. So we've created this mini workshop just for you.
About This Workshop
Overlock and Coverlock stitches are what you'll find on the inside of almost any piece of regular hi-street clothing. They are the ubiquitous stitches for quick and neat seaming, hemming, or edging. The Overlocker and Coverlocker machines (sometimes combined in one machine) are dedicated to this purpose, and they come in particularly handy when sewing with knitted fabrics, such as jersey.
In this 2-hour workshop, led by Patricia Collins, we'll be helping you to get your head around these rather odd looking machines. Topics covered will include threading your machine; setting thread tension; and working with knit and woven fabrics. Students will then share one machine between two, taking it in turns to practice a variety of techniques and create their own samples. This will result in a technique sample book that can be used for future reference.
Note: You must have a basic understanding of garment construction for this course. If you've taken any of our beginner Making Clothes or similar courses, then you will be fine.
